The Purge: Anarchy Review

The Purge in 2013, was a surprisingly interesting movie that had a very fascinating concept. Yet it had its share of problems which included awful choices that people wouldn't be stupid enough to make, and not enough action. However, in the second installment of the Purge it has a better plot filled with action, better characters, and the absence of completely stupid decisions.
The Purge: Anarchy follows the paths of three different character backgrounds that become intertwined when they run into each other on Purge night. This changes the action of the plot by focusing on surviving instead of their individual plot lines. Instead of just focusing on a family inside a house; the movie is an open-world version filled with revenge, survival, and a deeper sense of what Purge night is all about. Such as the difference in societal class on Purge night and the effects that the night has on the less fortunate. Nonetheless, the plot is brought to life by better acting from the characters; such as Frank Gillo playing the revenge focused Sergeant or Zoe Soul/Carmen Ejogo playing a mother/daughter relationship to perfection.
Meanwhile, there was a lot more action than the first one. Anarchy was filled with gunshots, blood, and psychotic episodes of violence that kept you on the edge of your seat. It was a much more welcoming experience than waiting for the action to happen inside a house when the psychos are also waiting. Yet I felt that it was odd that everyone could handle guns without any problems or experience of holding weapons.

To conclude, I was quite surprised at how improved the Purge had become with better plots, setting, and better decisions. The movie kept things very interesting by balancing action scenes with dramatic ones to perfection. I am now even more interested in any upcoming Purge sequels.

Plot: 9.0/10
Action: 9.4/10
Interest: 9.4/10
